Traditional Sivas rugs were distinguished by their dense and short, velvet-like pile in elaboratedesigns. The main border is typically composed of rows of three floral motifs, held together by a stem or vine. It is said that this areas designs are inspired by a neighboring Armenian colony which produces rugs composed of row after row of vertical stripes. Each stripe is filled with elaborate floral arabesques. The pile is clipped very short so that the detailed patterns can be clearly seen.
